What Is Project 2025?
Project 2025 envisions a 180-day blitz to unilaterally upend our daily lives if Trump wins the presidency again. The vast majority of the project’s authors were senior officials in Trump’s administration, and over 100 radical right-wing organizations contributed to it. The project's biggest priorities include banning abortion nationwide, creating mass immigrant internment camps, and eliminating the Department of Education. The more than 900-page document outlines countless smaller (yet equally damaging) changes, such as privatizing weather reports. The project's meticulous plan details a far-reaching attack on virtually every American freedom. For every element of American society, there’s a corresponding policy proposal backed by religious fundamentalists and extreme right-wing organizations. The Trump Administration will implement all of this on its own by removing our government's system of checks and balances against presidential power under the “unitary executive theory” (a radical interpretation of the Constitution that argues for the unlimited power of the president). The Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority – including three Trump-appointed justices – would act in lockstep with the Trump administration, unraveling our storied democracy and creating a king with a few strokes of the pen.
Because Project 2025 could be carried out entirely by the executive branch, other elected officials would be powerless to stop it. The project also includes a plan to purge the government and replace civil servants with an army of 10,000 Trump loyalists who would carry out his orders without question–no matter what the Constitution says. Here’s a breakdown of some of the most chilling proposals:
